A new system. Built by medicine. Designed for coaches.
A practical, structured framework that helps coaches make consistent participation decisions when an athlete reports pain or is injured.
The Problem
When an athlete reports pain or gets hurt during practice, coaches are often the first ones asked to decide what happens next.

Can they keep going? Should they modify activity? Do they need to stop? Does someone need to take a closer look?

Without a consistent framework, those decisions can vary from coach to coach and situation to situation. Â CLEAR gives programs a shared system for approaching them consistently.

What is CLEAR?
CLEAR - Coach Led Evaluation for Athlete Readiness - is a practical decision-making framework built specifically for coaches.

Using simple, region-specific decision cards, CLEAR guides coaches through a consistent process when an athlete reports pain or gets hurt - helping them determine whether the athlete can continue, should be monitored, needs to stop, or should be referred for further evaluation.
Â
CLEAR doesn't ask coaches to diagnose injuries or practice medicine. Â It gives them a structured way to make the decisions they're already being asked to make.

Continue
The athlete can continue participating when the CLEAR criteria support continued activity.

Stop
The athlete should stop participation when CLEAR criteria indicate that continuing activity is not appropriate.
The CLEAR Framework
A structured, coach-led system for consistent participation decisions in youth sports.

Monitor
The athlete needs additional observation, modification, or reassessment before a clear participation decision can be made.

Refer
The athlete should be directed for medical evaluation when symptoms, function, or red flags indicate that further assessment is needed.

Meet Nick
Nick Oleson, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant and longtime tumbling and cheer coach with years of experience working with athletes from both sides of the injury decision.

His background in medicine, combined with extensive hands-on coaching experience, gives him a unique perspective on the decisions coaches face when an athlete reports pain or gets hurt during practice.

Nick developed CLEAR to bridge that gap - giving coaches a practical, structured framework for making confident and consistent participation decisions without asking them to diagnose injuries or practice medicine.
